Matej’s first film - a feature documentary - recently premiered & received Honorable Mention at the 37th New Jersey International Film Festival. It also received the Independent Vision Award, Documentary Film, at the VisionFest Festival, and has since been accepted to two additional festivals: Lift-Off Global Network Documentary Film Showcase and Ethnografilm Festival, Paris 2019. The film, Baba Babee Skazala [Grandmother Told Grandmother] tells the little-known story of Ukrainian children torn from their homes in the crush between the Nazi and Soviet fronts in World War II. Spending their childhood as refugees in Europe, these inspiring individuals later immigrated to the United States, creating new homes and communities through their grit, faith and deep belief in the importance of preserving culture.
Matej has also had opportunities to combine his love of figure skating & dance with his passion for film, including work with Ice Dance International, a professional performing arts company whose Founding Artistic Director, Douglas Webster, established the organization with the support of such figure skating and dance luminaries as Dick Button & Edward Villella.
